Y drive learner driver program

Y drive helps disadvantaged people in Eurobodalla obtain their learner (Ls) and provisional (Ps) licences. There are two Y drive programs.

You are eligible to apply to be on the Y drive program if you live in Eurobodalla and meet at least one of these criteria:

  • do not have access to the support you require to complete the licensing requirements
  • do not have access to a suitable vehicle
  • are struggling financially
  • are a twin, triplet or higher multiple.

The Ls program can help obtain your Ls by:

  • paying for the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) and learner licence
  • assisting to source the necessary identification documents
  • supporting you to prepare to sit the DKT
  • helping with transport to and from Service NSW.

The Ps program can help you to obtain your Ps by:

  • helping pay for the Hazard Perception Test, driving tests and provisional licence
  • providing up to 10 professional driving lessons
  • providing 1:1 mentored driving support if required
  • providing access to a vehicle to learn to drive
  • facilitating access to safer driving courses and practical workshops
  • helping get to and from Service NSW.

The information you provide is personal information and will be stored, used and disclosed in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy and Personal Protection Information Act 1998.

When you sign up to Y drive you consent to Eurobodalla Shire Council disclosing information about you to Transport for NSW (TfNSW) for:

  • verifying your successful completion of the course
  • evaluation of the program
  • participant safety, including the possibility of contacting you to discuss your experience of the Driver Licensing Access Program.

TfNSW will not disclose information about you to any third party without your consent. TfNSW’s information about your participation in DLAP will be securely held by TfNSW's electronic document management system.

If you want to get your learners' or provisional licence but need support, Y drive can help.

Become a Y drive mentor

If you have patience, great listening skills and a passion to help disadvantaged people become licenced drivers, you can become a Y drive mentor and:

  • support people preparing for the Driver Knowledge Test (Learners program)
  • help people learn to drive (Provisionals program).

Mentors are required to volunteer for at least one hour per week to assist individuals prepare for the Driver Knowledge Test.

Y drive will provide you with training opportunities and an introduction to the test.

Mentors are required to:

  • hold a current driver's licence
  • have committed no driving offences in the last five years
  • be over 21 years of age
  • commit to at least two voluntary driving hours per week.

Y drive will provide training and a vehicle to use for driving sessions.
