South Durras playground relocation
Project: We are relocating the playground for operational and safety improvements.
Timeframe: February 2024 to March 2024.
Status: In progress
Cost and funding:
- $13,000 from the Community Building Partnerships 2022 grant.
- $13,000 contribution from Council.
Page last updated: February 2024
Project details
We are working to:
- remove the playground
- relocate the existing playground to a more suitable location
- install a shade sail over the playground
- install a new picnic table and shelter within the vicinity of the new location.
We will carry out works in February and March 2024 (weather dependent).
Benefits to the community:
- improved safety and access
- improved lifespan of the asset.
Background and purpose
The existing playground is currently impacted by:
- overland flooding that occurs during storm events and pools around existing equipment
- its proximity to the car park and overhead power lines.
The playground in South Durras is popular among both residents and visitors. Relocating the playground will improve the playground’s operation and safety. This will benefit both the South Durras community and the asset.
We will relocate the playground directly west of its current location. We have talked with South Durras community members and the Durras Community Association about the operation and safety of the existing playground location.
The new location will reduce the impact of the playground on the existing playing fields. It will allow for more improvements, such as installing a shade sail and a covered picnic table.
