When starting or adapting your business, any change of use to land or a building, or embarking on new business activities may require approval.

Council can help with a range of permits and approvals for different business activities. We also carry out regular inspections of businesses where there are risks to public health, and ensure that operators are aware of their responsibilities.

Development approval for businesses

Contact us to find out whether or not you need land-use or building approvals to establish or make changes to your business.

Liquid trade waste

You need to obtain approval from Council if you intend to conduct a business activity that generates and discharges liquid trade waste.

Food businesses

Find out about setting up a new food business, food safety training and food inspections, temporary food stalls at markets and events, and home-based food businesses.

Skin penetration businesses

The Public Health Regulation 2012 requires operators of skin penetration procedures to be registered with Council and our health officers carry out inspections when needed.

Public pools and spas

Council carries out inspections of public swimming pools and spas to ensure they are operating within legislative requirements.

Permits for filming on public land

You need a permit if you intend to film on public land for commercial uses.
