Event permits
For any event that takes place in Council parks or reserves, you will need to apply for an event permit if any of these apply:
- you plan to erect infrastructure
(eg large or multiple marquees, temporary fencing, a stage, etc) - you require vehicle access to drop off equipment
- your event will impact vehicle and/or pedestrian traffic
- your event requires closure off a road or car park
- you are charging a participant fee
- there will be 60 or more attendees
- your event requires a reservation.
Approval types and timeframes
Depending on the size and complexity of your event, you may also need to apply for permits to other organisations. Approval can take between one and six months.
Here are some examples of what can impact the time it takes to get approval:
1 month+
- Temporary event camping.
- Events taking place in NSW state forests.
2 months+
- Events requiring emergency services (fire and ambulance) to attend,
- Events taking place on Local Aboriginal Land.
3 months+
- Events taking place on Crown land or activities in the Batemans Marine Park
- Events that will sell alcohol
- Events with amusement or mechanical rides, or fireworks
- Events with temporary structures such as scaffolding and fencing on road reserves on paths
- Competitions, races, or fireworks displays in or on navigable waters
4 months+
- Events requiring requiring temporary infrastructure.
- Events requiring traffic management and control plans
- Events requiring police notification of public assembly.
6 months+
- Events taking place in NSW national parks
- Events requiring the use or occupation of land for more than 3 consecutive days.

How to apply for an event permit
Before you apply, you can contact Council’s events team for guidance. We can help you find out which permits (if any) are relevant for your event, how long approval may take, and what supporting documents to include with your application.
When you are ready to apply for your event permit:

- Return your application and supporting documents to us by email:
We will review your application and contact you if we need any additional information.
Once approved, we will let you know formally, and you can proceed with running your event.
