Development

Development includes building, renovating, demolishing, subdividing land, or changing the use of a building or land.

If you are developing, you may need to lodge a Development Application (DA) to get approval from Council. As part of the application, process, we will assess the likely impacts of your development and ensure it complies with relevant legislation.

You may also need other approvals for certain parts of your development. These works include:

  • installing a solid fuel heating appliance
  • new stormwater connection
  • driveway crossing
  • installing a relocatable home, annexe, or associated structure on a dwelling site in a caravan park.

On this page, you'll find all the information you need to know about the types of development, when you need approval from Council, and the processes involved.

Business and industrial zones are being replaced with ‘employment zones’:

From December 2022, a reference to a business or industrial zone B1, B2, B4, B5 or IN1 in a document or page should be taken to be a reference to an employment zone E1, E2, E3, E4 or MU1. For further information, please see 'Employment zones reform'.
