Jacqui Filby, Club Manager – Far South Coast, PCYC NSW - 7 May 2024
Jacqui Filby presented to Council at the Public Access Session on 7 May 2024.
Council's reply
It is evident from your presentation that the PCYC is passionate and committed to providing excellent services and programs to young people in the Eurobodalla, which is to be commended.
As you would know, Council has been an active supporter of the PCYC for many years, assisting in the preparation of the original grant that brought the PCYC to the shire, as well as offering free and subsidised access to Council halls and recreational facilities at various times.
Council has provided office space at Narooma Leisure Centre since the PCYC commenced operations, with Council only charging the Crown minimum rate ($587pa) plus water and utilities (approx. $595 pa). In addition, Council resolved to provide the PCYC with free bookings for venues across the shire during the first year of operation to help the PCYC to establish and thrive.
Council also supports the PCYC with ongoing cost savings. During 2023/24 Council has applied a 40% community discount on 188.5 hours of PCYC bookings at the Narooma Leisure Centre, for a total fee of $3732.30 (saving approx. $2,500), which is in addition to the office space provided.
Council’s Youth services have worked for several years at the Garindga Walawaani weekly youth service at the facility at Gundary oval in Moruya alongside PCYC who took over the service approximately 4 years ago. Our youth service provides a range of services to young people including a recently launched mobile outreach service which has seen several collaborations with the PCYC and local police.
While Council is not necessarily in a position to fund a PCYC Club, we are keen to explore further opportunities with the PCYC, including the potential use of Council facilities as a PCYC Club.
As a first step, the PCYC may wish to put forward a proposal for Council’s consideration, identifying preferred venues/locations, proposed management model/s and indicative costs and funding opportunities.
