Helping visitors find their way

Media release: 1 May 2018

Eurobodalla Council is preparing a Tourism Wayfinding and Signage Strategy to guide visitors and help them discover the Shire's diverse experiences and attractions.

The Strategy will help Council identify the need for key visitor signage including the location and style of different types of tourism and wayfinding signs.

Residents and visitors can complete a short online survey to help Council understand what attractions and places are important and how existing signage to these places could be improved.

The survey is available until Friday 11 May.

Council is working with Wayfound, a specialist tourism and wayfinding consultancy, to assist with preparing the strategy. The project is jointly-funded by the Australian Government's Building Better Regions Fund and Council.

Council’s Tourism and Events Manager Meredith Wray said distinctive and innovative visitor signage helped guide visitors to key attractions and experiences and encourage them to stay longer and spend more.

“It is important that we start taking a holistic and integrated view of tourism signage across Eurobodalla and the particular signage needs of our towns and villages,” she said.

“It is also important that we understand the signage needs for key tourist attractions, transport and gateway locations so we are promoting a diversity of experiences.”

Feedback sessions with representatives from local tourism businesses and operators will be undertaken in May.

Further opportunities for the community to provide feedback on the strategy will be available as the project progresses.
