Mayor welcomes bypass announcement

Eurobodalla Mayor Mathew Hatcher is welcoming yesterday’s announcement of a preferred route for the Moruya bypass.

“Council has advocated for and supported work to secure a bypass for the town,” Mayor Hatcher said.

“Transport for NSW have announced their preferred route; a two lane, nine-kilometre bypass east of the Princes Highway and connecting to it north of Malabar Drive and south of Mountain View Road.

“Now the route is defined, Transport for NSW will seek funding for design and construction – estimated to cost more than $1.7 billion.

“I believe it’s a project with strong community support and as Eurobodalla’s Mayor I will continue to stand behind this project and very much look forward to seeing it progress.”

Mayor Hatcher says the bypass will ensure ready access to the new regional hospital for those living north of Moruya.

“I’ll keep working with our local MPs Michael Holland and Fiona Phillips to see this bypass funded. They both understand its importance for the future of our shire and have been in the mix advocating with me at every opportunity.”
