Ancient stories launch online next week

Unique stories featuring the ongoing cultural history of Eurobodalla’s Yuin people and their connection to place launch online next week.

To create the Eurobodalla: Yuin People series, outdoor travel specialists We Are Explorers met with local identities – Dwayne Bannon-Harrison, Warwick Smith and Patricia Ellis – to capture three incredible tales spanning tens of thousands of years. Explorers’ founder Henry Brydon said it was fascinating to hear these sacred stories, rooted by an undying connection to place.

“We wandered across the Eurobodalla, from shoreline to mountain top,” Mr Brydon said.

“Listening to the stories – from the gold-mining village of Central Tilba and Gulaga the Mother Mountain, to the life-giving Clyde River, and along a traditional Yuin songline on the Bingi Dreaming Track – we can’t wait to share them with you.”

Eurobodalla Council’s tourism manager Tim Booth said the three stories would be delivered online, as part of a new digital marketing campaign to attract more out of season visitors to Eurobodalla.

“We’re thrilled to have We Are Explorers, with their lust for nature adventure and incredibly strong following across NSW they’re the perfect fit for this project,” Mr Booth said.

“It’s ground-breaking stuff and feeds into a huge market appetite to learn more about our Aboriginal community and their connection to Country. This builds on the amazing visitor support we’ve had since the fires and COVID – people are taking time to slow down and learn uniquely Australian stories.”

Mr Booth said itineraries featuring related events, activities and businesses would be released during March and April, directly capitalising on the stories’ launch.

“Local businesses should make sure their Australian Tourism Data Warehouse listing is up to date if they want to be included,” he said.

“We encourage everyone to share these stories as they come online. Let’s encourage customers, friends and family to visit the shire and have their own unique story of Eurobodalla unfold.”

Eurobodalla: Yuin People episode one launches Tuesday 9 February on Eurobodalla TV and Eurobodalla All Kinds of Natural social media channels. Watch the series trailer now.
